Who I Really Am: Day 2
GOD KNOWS ME
Does Anyone Really Know Me?
Yesterday, we took an honest look at how we see ourselves. We also read David's words in Psalm 139, where he acknowledged that God knew him completely.
But what does that really mean?
Even the people closest to us don't know everything about us. They may know our habits, our experiences, and the things we choose to share. But they cannot always see what we're thinking, understand what we're feeling, or recognize the struggles we keep to ourselves.
Sometimes we don't even understand those things ourselves.
What if we never had to explain ourselves perfectly to be understood?
That's where our study begins today.
Before We Begin: A Personal Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for knowing me completely, even when I struggle to understand myself. Holy Spirit, open my heart and mind to the truth of God's Word. Help me recognize what You want me to learn and show me how to apply it in my everyday life. Teach me to trust You with the thoughts and concerns I find difficult to express. In Jesus' name, Amen.
What Does God’s Word Say
GOD KNOWS WHAT I HAVEN’T SAID
Psalm 139:4 (BSB)
Even before a word is on my tongue, You know all about it, O LORD.
Think about the times you've struggled to explain how you feel or what you're going through. Perhaps you've said, "I don't even know how to put it into words."
David reminds us that God's understanding isn't limited to what we say aloud. He knows our thoughts before we speak them.
God understands what I cannot always put into words.
GOD IS ALWAYS PRESENT
Psalm 139:7 (BSB)
Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?
David moves from describing God's knowledge to recognizing His presence.
There may be times when we feel alone, misunderstood, or disconnected from others. But David reminds us that there is nowhere we can go beyond God's presence.
Even when I feel alone, I am never beyond God's reach.
The Holy Spirit Helps Us Pray
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.
Romans 8:26 (BSB)
Sometimes our concerns are difficult to explain. We may not know what to ask for or even understand what we're feeling.
In this passage, Paul explains that the Holy Spirit helps believers in their weakness and intercedes for them when they don't know how to pray.
God doesn't require perfect words. We can come before Him honestly, trusting that He knows what is in our hearts.
I don't need perfect words to come before God in prayer.
